Jury
The winning upgrade kit will eventually be chosen by a professional jury.
We are happy to announce that Tom Coronel, one of Hollands most successful racing drivers will be one of the jury members.
Check www.tomcoronel.com for more information about his career.
Wubbo Ockels
![]()
We are proud to announce that Wubbo Ockels, the first Dutch astronaut who went into space, will be part of the professional Hybrid Tuktuk jury! Mr. Ockels recieved a doctorate philosophy degree in physics and mathematics from the Universiy of Groningen in 1973. He also completed a Ph.D thesis on the basis of experimental work at the Nuclear Physics Accellerator Institute in Groningen in 1978 and holds a professorship in aerospace at the Delft University of Technology. He is currently involved in several sustainable projects, like the Solar Challenge and the Superbus.
Wouter van Dieren
![]()
We are also happy to announce Wouter van Dieren as the third member of the professional Hybrid Tuktuk jury. As chairman of the Insitute for Environment and System Analysis in Amsterdam (IMSA), he is known for his extensive involvement in world environmental activities in the field of management, science, politics and media. He is also a member of the Club of Rome and of the world academy for Art and Science.
The experts providing feedback to the teams at the end of each phase:
Satish Beella
Ir. Satish kumar Beella holds his masters degree in Industrial Design from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. Satish present research activities are mainly based on sustainable transportation innovations. From 2005, he is busy with design based PhD research at Delft University of Technology concerning of alternatives for urban car transport and solutions for chain mobility options. He has presently responsible role for alternative mobility development in innovative projects like ‘D-incert’ and ‘Cradle to Cradle Islands’.
Chris Klok
Chris has a background in Industrial Design Engineering in Delft where he graduated in 1998. He worked almost three years for Renault in design and later in research. After moving to Barcelona Chris developed three motorcycles for Derbi before he returned to the Netherlands in the beginning of 2007. Chris got involved in this project because there is a great potential for real change as opposed to the fantastic studies we often see in the press. He believes that a good idea applied many times can have much more impact than the best idea applied only once.
Sven Pluut
Sven Pluut has studied Technology Management at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG). The combination between engineering and business courses is one what Sven found to be very interesting and proves to be useful in my day to day activities at the Skill Centre Sustainability at Altran. During research for sustainable mobility he came across the Hybrid TukTuk project; in his opinion a very good initiative because it links sustainable development with education. Sven hope that students who participate in this project realise that this is a unique opportunity to develop your skills while doing something good. His role as a member of the jury he will therefore focus on the business case part of the projects. And see if these are realistic, and able to convince potential investors.
Thies Timmermans
Thies Timmermans graduated in 2006 at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology. Already during his study his interests went out to the social aspect in product design: how can a product contribute to the process of helping people. This thought is clearly visible in his prizewinning graduation project: the design of a mountain bike for people who live in a wheelchair. In Amsterdam he worked as a junior designer at Butterfly Works: an organization that implements creative projects in third world countries to improve social situation and increase independency of the local population. At the moment he’s working as a freelance designer. During the Battle for the Hybrid Tuktuk Thies will mainly focus on the social impact and management/strategic plan of the Battle Teams.
Frank de Boer
Frank de Boer is an electrical engineer and specialized in control engineering. He works for IPCOS bv, where he helps develop and implement control and performance monitoring and optimisation systems for a variety of industries. He is currently working in the energy production market with customers all around the globe. He has joined the jury of the Hybrid Tuk Tuk project because of his interest in the technology, but even more so to be able contribute to the challenges we’re faced with these days. A growing population with a growing demand for energy, with limited means of providing it. His focus will therefore be on the implementation of the technology; the applicability of the solution to the situation in India.
